Belted Sweater

I am very particular about adding belts to outfits - they're often (mistakenly) touted as a magic solution to streamline your silhouette, or "cinch in" your waist.

While this may be the case for certain body types, and certain belts, it can actually backfire. Not to overcomplicate things, but there is a time and a place for each type of belt.

If I had paired this oversized turtleneck with a skinny belt and slim pants or jeans, it would have looked totally different. Perhaps not bad, but certainly not flattering. Because I don't naturally have an hourglass figure, the skinny belt would draw attention to the width of my torso, instead of accentuating my curves.

By pairing this sweater with a belt BAG it works to create that nipped in waist - the culottes also add volume to the bottom half, to accentuate the waist even more.

These photos were taken back in October, before snowmageddon descended upon us, but these gorgeous pumps can easily be swapped out for boots for a winter-ready look.

I do love these tweed and glitter pumps though - they're one of the first gifts Azim ever bought me when we first started dating :)
